Beautify Southern Illinois Days Throughout Southern Illinois:
April 25th to May 1st, there will be events in numerous southern Illinois communities in support of beautifying our region and supporting the first-ever Beautify Southern Illinois Days project.  These events are open and we encourage you to consider volunteering for one or more of these events.

  • Village of Alto Pass April 30, 2011 Litter Pickup/Plant Flowers

Volunteers meet at 9am at the Pavilion in beautiful downtown Alto Pass!

  • Community Wide Clean-up Carbondale Saturday, April 30, 2011 9am-12pm
    Meet at Central Location: Downtown Pavilion at the intersection of Illinois 51 and Route 13, on the North East Corner to the right of the railroad tracks. Near Tres Hombres.

    • Gloves, Bags, and Clean-Up Materials will be provided. Note: Please wear closed- toe shoes
    • Saluki Corps Volunteer hours will be given to SIUC students
    • Cut off date to Pre-Register: Thursday, April 27, 2011 Walk-Ups encouraged! Event will occur Rain or Shine -Please Plan Accordingly! Cancellation if Lightning and Thunder

  • EARTH EXTRAVAGANZA at SIUC Campus Lake: May 1, 2011
    “Earth Extravaganza” is sponsored by SIUC Recreation Center and the SIUC Beautify Southern Illinois Student Alliance.

    The event is targeted to local children, primarily ages K-6th grade and their families. The vision of Earth Extravaganza is to provide a fun day of hands-on, eco-themed activities to create environmental awareness and exposure to southern Illinois youth.

    The event is FREE & open to the public.

  • Carterville, April 30, 2011: Beautification Event
    City-wide beautification activities. Volunteers are to meet behind the Carterville City Hall in downtown Carterville by 8:30am.

    Beautification projects will be assigned upon arrival. Volunteers will meet back at the parking lot behind City hall at noon for lunch.

  • Johnston City: Make A Difference Days, April 25-27, 2011
    The Johnston City "Make A Difference Days" are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday April 25th, 26th and 27th. 

    Residents who need help are urged to call City Hall with there needs, and volunteers will help them.  Dumpsters will be between the Train Depot and Fire Department, and all day Monday we will have the county recyclable trailer. 

    We meet at the Methodist Church at 8:00 each day to handout volunteer "helper slips."  Bring your pick ups and help your neighbors.

  • Makanda April 30, 2011: Litter cleanup within the Village of Makanda
    The trash clean-up is scheduled for Saturday the 30th from 8:00-4:00. Participants will meet at the parking lot across from the Pavilion in downtown Makanda.

    • Litter Pickup on 200 Block of West Main in Marion: conducted by Home Community & Education group of the Illinois Home Extension
    • Litter Pickup Hunters Run Subdivision in Marion: Saturday, April 30 hosted by Hunters Run Neighborhood Volunteers
    • Litter Pickup along Williamson County Parkway/Ashley Park in Marion: conducted by Girl Scout Troop #8075
    • White Oak Seedling Giveaway: conducted by Changing Seasons Landscape Center
    • Litter Pickup along 3 mile section of South Market Road: Saturday, April 30 conducted by River 2 River Running Club
    • “Recycling Works” Seminar: Thursday, April 28 at the Williamson County Administration Building Boardroom 9am-11am
    • Saturday, April 30 - The Gravatt-Brown family will be conducting a litter pick up at the old Wolohan's lot, located next to Foley-Sweitzer Motors, in Marion.
    • Saturday, April 30 - Marion High School Tri-Hi-Y girls service group will conduct a litter pick up at the Marion Soccer Fields at St. Joseph's church
    • Saturday, April 30 - Withers Broadcasting "Swap Til You Drop" Women's Clothing Swap at Bennie's in Marion. Re-using is event better than recycling! See more information about this event: http://www.mywithersradio.com/w3d/

  • Steeleville- April 30, 2011 Newly formed Seeds of Steeleville
    Seeds of Steeleville working hand in hand with the Steeleville Jaycees and the City Beautification Committee.

    • We will be meeting at 9:30 at the Jaycee Park on Shawneetown Trail.
      • Cleanup parks within city limits
      • Plant flowers in city park
      • Plant flowers in front village hall
      • Cleanup/fixup Jaycee park on Shawneetown Trail
      • Free BBQ for volunteers at noon at the Jaycee Park provided by Seeds of Steeleville/Jaycee
